What is LMFT-A?
LMFT-A is an acronym for LicenseddMarriagee and FamilyTherapistt Associate. In South Carolina, I am registered as an associate licensed therapist, which requires passing the National MFT Exam and completing a certain amount of clinical experience and supervision hours.
In order to provide psychotherapy as an associate, by law, I am required to work under the supervision of a fully licensed therapist. I am currently working towards my independent license, which in the state of South Carolina requires 1500 hrs of additional clinical experience, 120 of which must be additional supervision. My supervisor's name is Samantha Rousey, and she is an LMFT.
A significant difference between holding an associate license and being independently licensed is the ability to network with insurance companies.
